One Energy

Posted December 22, 2013 by Padman Pillai

Have you ever felt powerless when you are faced with one experience of bad luck after another? Have you ever felt powerless to change what life has dished out for you and your family? Have you ever felt powerless to earn enough money to buy your daily necessities despite all your hours of hard work? Have you ever felt powerless to eradicate sickness of your body and mind?

If you answered “YES” to any of the above questions, you may want to consider the following idea.

There is one universal energy: omnipotent (all powerful), omnipresent (present everywhere), and omniscient (all knowing). It is infinite, eternal, changeless, timeless, unconditionally loving, impersonal, genderless, and yet indescribable. There is nothing else. All our perceptions are but illusions. Reality as we perceive it is an illusion. Illusions keep us in delusion.

Underneath the seeming multiplicity of our lives there is oneness. You are this oneness. I am this oneness. We are all this one source of creation. We are engrossed in the amazing play of consciousness and do not realize the fundamental greatness of our nature.   We do not understand that we are all drops in the ocean of this one energy, encased in a physical body 1.  Everything we touch, taste, smell, see, or hear is an aspect of this one energy. We experience the power of this oneness through its manifestations. This energy is always visible through its manifestations.

Hindus call this energy atma, often translated as soul, consciousness, or awareness.  Jesus referred to this energy as “the Kingdom of Heaven”. Many call this energy “God”. It does not matter what we call it.  Just as we use the word “water” to describe the contents of a glass, in Italian it’s called “aqua” and in Hindi it is called “pani”.  The liquid inside the glass is the same irrespective of the name we give it.  In the same way, it does not matter what we name this energy.

This energy has been present from time immemorial, and has no beginning and no end.  It is eternal. Thus, as an aspect of this one energy, we too are eternal. In this way, we actually survive even after the death of our physical body. There is life after life.

That which is eternal is changeless, and, as that is the very nature of our own being, it is the only changeless thing we can know in this world.   When we partake fully of this knowledge, we can approach that state which is the experience of unconditional love and bliss. That is the reason for the expression “God is love”.

Hindus speak of sat- chit- ananda.  It is an expression that contains in its meaning all that is the nature of this one energy.  Sat means truth, that which exists in all places, in all things and at all times 2. It does not refer to relative truth such as not telling a lie. It refers to that which is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, and eternal.  For example your body is present here, now.  It is not present at the opposite side of the earth right now. So your body is not sat or truth.

Chit means consciousness. Since this energy is consciousness itself, it is aware of itself being everything, everywhere and every when. Because there is nothing outside of this energy, there is nothing to fear 3. Being self-sufficient, this energy lacks nothing, and so it is always happy and blissful, which is ananda.

Hindus also call this energy Sathyam – shivam- sundaram.  Sathyam means truth, Shivam means auspiciousness, and Sundaram means beauty.  However, as mentioned earlier, all these descriptions remain but attempts to describe that which is indescribable.

We become powerless when we are hypnotized that we are separated from this source and from one another.  When we re-establish the connection with this source of all creation, all things are possible. This connection is never lost. An acorn has everything within it to become an oak tree. Knowingly or unknowingly we create our universe through thoughts, feelings and beliefs. We are divine power plants 4.

Staying aware of your connection to your inner self all day, every day, will change your life in magical ways. Your intuition will become stronger and frequent. You will feel calmer peaceful, tranquil and more centered. You will feel inspired and happy. You will start receiving more of the things you’ve been trying to manifest, such as vibrant health, prosperity, abundance, etc. , sometimes for years (5).

I am mentioning the foregoing just to point out how powerful we truly are. We are co-creators of our own reality using this amazing power. We spend lifetimes searching for meaning and redemption, and yet it is as close to us as our own minds and hearts.  We need only look within, where this power blazes like a mid-day sun. Meditation is one of the tools to experience this omnipotent energy. So, if we are of this “ONE ENERGY”, how can we then say that we are powerless?
